Inspectional

home inspection by department of childrens services?

this is for a custody case. Was court ordered as part of a custody dispute for step daughter. What should I know about the visit and what do they look for. I know the obvious like if the house is clean and if there is food but what else are they looking for.

Public Comments

  1. Interaction between adults and children, proper sleeping quarters, i.e., if bunk beds in room then no more than 2 children. Depending on ages, same sex in one room as opposed to boy/girl in one room, again this is dependent on AGE. Home safety issues, adequate space, leisure items, etc.
  2. O would do these inspections in the UK.......so some of this is based on what I would expect at those visits [and I think it almost laughable that they give you notice over here, but that's another vein of thought] I would look for reasonable kiddie mess, [depending on age of course] that the house was child proof [again age related] that there was interactive toys out and being used by the child [NOT the TV blaring in one corner and the kid stuck on a video game] I also would inspect the child's own personal space, was it clean and child friendly...............[seeing a mattress tossed on the floor with a grubby sheet on it and the room smelling of pee pee is NOT a good sign] Really basic common sense stuff [and I am NOT saying that you do not have it of course] so overall that the house is a clean [ish] safe environment for the child to be there either full time or for what ever length of time that they are aiming for. regards and good luck, above all DO NOT try to be something you are not, we can smell that a mile off.
  3. Food, proper beds and bed rooms. They want to know if you're clean, on drugs... Sounds like more than just a simple custody battle to me.
  4. they will ask the childen questions while looing for signs of abuse such as bruising. they open all your cabinets & fridge for food. they may want to see the childs room to see what the sleeping arrangements are like. you didn't say the age of the children. That's pretty much it.
  5. Just to add to everyone elses comments. We went through the same thing and smoke alarms were a big deal for the worker who was inspecting our home
